Ramsay Theatre Scholars Headed to State Competition
Three Ramsay High School scholars have advanced to the State Competition after receiving Superior scores at the 2023 District 6 Walter Trumbauer Theatre Festival held at Thompson High School on Nov. 4.
Issac Simon and Cadence Porter earned Superior marks in Dramatic Monologues while Morghan Hamilton scored Superior in Costume Design (the school's first tech theatre entry). They will compete against scholars from across Alabama at the University of North Alabama in December.
Zakari White and Camryn Smith also received medals of Excellence for Comedic Monologues, which means they also received high scores!
This is Ramsay's second time competing since 2018 and second time going to State. Previously, Ramsay Theatre alumna Markeilah Lyles snagged the highest scoring dramatic monologue in the 2018 State Competition.
Seven District competitions were held at other schools throughout Alabama on Saturday. Over 200 high schools/academies compete at Trumbauer Festivals annually. There were 450 competition entries in the District 6 Competition at Thompson High School.
"Although Ramsay is a 5A school we were up against 7A schools in our district and secured 3 Superiors to compete in the State Fine Arts Championship!" said Jacqueline Crenshaw Lockhart, MAE, Theatre Arts Teacher and Fine Arts Chair at Ramsay High School.
Congratulations to our scholars!
